Please note, under the MPIA process, and as advised in the Fourteenth Edition of the Maryland Public Information Act Manual created by Maryland’s Office of the Attorney General, an agency is only obligated to produce existing records and is not required to generate new data or summarize data – such as pulling existing data into one excel file if it’s not currently used in that manner.

A summary of 2017-2018 (labeled current) and 2018-2019 (proposed) placement of relocatables at each HCPSS school as presented to the Board of Education in March 2018. Please note, relocatables are not counted towards official capacity, as defined by HCPSS Policy 6010. However, our Office of School Planning indicates in order to calculate the temporary capacity at the school, we use 1:25 – if a school has four relocatables for instance, that adds 100 seats to the local capacity.
While no existing records identify how many students use each relocatable classroom, this report for the 2017-2018 year identifies homerooms held in portables at the elementary level (see pages 7-12), and the average-upper range for all classes regardless of location at the upper middle and high levels.
