Response Notes

Please note, School Resource Officers are employees of the Howard County Police Department (HCPD) and as such, outside the materials provided below, records regarding training may be requested directly from that agency – see the County’s MPIA website for contact information: https://www.howardcountymd.gov/PIA. Additionally, as Hate Crimes refers to a criminal offense, staff indicates HCPSS does not offer specific staff training on this topic, however such information may also be a record of the HCPD in relation to School Resource Officers.

Per your request for materials from trainings that address anti-bias or anti-hate, a presentation from our Office of Diversity Equity and Inclusion on Creating a Learning Environment that Values All Learners is available for review. Additionally, the most recent resource guides used for Cultural Proficiency training are available for review. As these materials were developed for the specific use of these courses, with copyright belonging to both the school system as well as those used with express permission from outside sources, issuance of this response does not convey permission to use/distribute these materials for other purposes. Records can be made available via email/mail.
