More specifically, the high school formula as provided by the School Planning Office is:
High = # of teaching stations x 25 x 80% (or 85%) (special education classes are excluded)
For reference, during the 2009 review of high school capacities, based on high school principals feedback and public testimony, a variable (of 80% or 85%) based on general education specifications was incorporated in the calculation. The action item for the Board to review methodology for HS capacity calculation was presented to the Board of Education on March 26, 2009: http://www.boarddocs.com/mabe/hcpssmd/Board.nsf/goto?open&id=82C7AW102177. Capacities are re-assessed over time using the same calculation that the Board approved. example, after the completion of an addition/renovation or the addition or relocation of a regional program, a school capacity could be reviewed and recalculated.
