Response Notes

Responsive to this request, there are no existing records outside individual student files which would reflect the use of cued speech. Both the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) and MPIA GP § 4-313 restrict access to records pertaining to individual students. Additionally, there are no existing records related to training and/or education on cued speech for HCPSS staff. The HCPSS Department of Special Education indicates American Sign Language is the method typically used by teachers for the deaf and hard of hearing.

*Some request language is summarized to include the requester’s specific document requests and remove legally protected information (such as personally identifiable information of a student).
