Response Notes

Responsive to this request, and per clarification you are seeking libraries that are being set up independent of the school media center by DEI and Rainbow Representatives with the intent to loan to teachers but may be shared with students as supplemental reading material for units of study, libraries containing books that would be available to students include media centers as well as student libraries within individual classrooms. Media center libraries are cataloged and can be made available similar to this prior MPIA response: https://mpia.hcpss.org/requests/2023-073. Media center libraries may also contain materials available to staff for professional learning. Classroom libraries, which may include donated texts, are developed by the individual teacher as teacher-selected instructional resources under HCPSS Policy 8040 Implementation. Both libraries are created with an intent to meet the purpose of Policy 8040 to provide content that aligns with local, state, and national curriculum standards, maintains educational excellence, nurtures student cognitive, social and emotional well-being, and affirms student identity and experiences. For reference, central Diversity Equity and Inclusion staff indicates the following two books have been recommend as resources for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Liaisons for teacher professional learning and shared with these schools:

●    We Got This – Cornelius Minor
●    Guiding Teams to Excellence With Equity: Culturally Proficient Facilitation – John Krownapple

Responsive Documents
Per clarification you are seeking this record from Triadelphia Ridge Elementary School, please see attached a record they maintain of the list of these books. Please note, the school indicates these books are all approved (per HCPSS Policy 8040 – Selection of Instructional Resources) to be in HCPSS media centers in circulation for student check-out. While these titles may be in circulation in their media center, the collection is on a shelf for the teacher’s professional development books.
