Response Notes
Responsive to this request, and per clarification you are specifically seeking “diversity or white fragility type of training,” please find the records below. For reference, although not a list of training, the HCPSS Budget for FY21 outlines the initiatives of the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (page 151) as well as the Office of Professional Development (page 162) which have the main responsibility for professional development of staff: https://www.hcpss.org/f/aboutus/budget/fy21/fy21-board-approved-operating-budget.pdf. No additional clarification received from requester to continue response.
Staff training expectations leading up to the opening of the 2021 school year can be found under this previous MPIA response, including a Racial Equity Module on page 4
This schedule, following the start of the school year, outlines professional learning of school-based staff, including Racial Equity Modules
(required for all teachers, related service providers and student services staff) and Culturally Responsive Practices (required for all teachers and student services staff). As part of this learning sequence, staff will engage in school-based Dialogic Conversations (required for all teachers and student services staff) to process, reflect, and discuss the implications of what they have learned and applied to their practice.
This catalog outlines the most recent continuing professional development courses offered by HCPSS (approved by the Maryland State Department of Education), which are available to staff based on interest and needs for recertification, including courses on Cultural Proficiency and others which may address diversity.
