I'm requesting information about how our schools handle a students request for gender-related accommodations, including:
1) Changing their names and/or pronouns
2) Bathroom, locker room, and changing area usage
3) Gym class and competitive sports participation
4) Housing arrangements for overnight stays
Specifically, I am requesting the following:
a) Any written policies or other guidance provided to teachers or other staff to explaining how to handle these situations
b) Any training or other professional development materials provided to teacher or other staff explaining how to handle these situations, including presentations materials and/or references to web sites staff is expected to adhere to
c) A copy of the contract for any company or provider of professional development on these topics that HCPS has contracted with.

Responsive to this request, beyond the records provided below no contracts with outside vendors for staff professional development regarding the topics in 1-4 were located.

This statewide guidance from the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletics Association is used by HCPSS Athletics staff for sports participation.
This MPIA response from 2019 includes both internal and statewide guidance that is still in use currently by the school system. Please note, staff anticipates updating similar internal guidance for the coming school year, however it has not yet been created.
This record contains the portion of professional learning materials created in-house and provided to school staff during the current year relevant to student names. Staff indicates this was presented to school counselors in October, school nurses in January, and Special Education instructional team leaders in March/April.
